Kindness is defined as doing something toward yourself and others, motivated by genuine desire to make a positive difference. Kindness is shown to increase self-esteem and mood, decrease stress levels, improve relationships, slow aging, and is accompanied by emotional warmth. Research shows kindness and mental health are deeply connected.
We at Carriage Court Senior Living know that one act of kindness can lead to many more. Kindness is contagious and it begins with you!
I believe kindness is a person doing a deed for someone without being ask to, or expected to, and not anticipating anything in return.
There are so many small things you can do to show kindness and put a smile on someone’s face. You can say hello and smile as you pass a stranger on the sidewalk, hold the door open for an elderly couple you see walking into a building, offer to help unload a person’s groceries onto the conveyor at the store, or let a coworker know you appreciate their efforts in their job.
We can help to inspire others to spread kindness by leading by example. If you want others to be kind, then you need to always be kind as well.
I’m from Waverly, a small town in southern Ohio, where we truly have six stop lights in the entire city. A group of six teenagers from the local football team were on a run together and stopped in the grocery store parking lot catching their breath. Two of the six young men, without being asked, walked over, and offered to help an elderly couple put their groceries into the back of their truck. The elderly gentleman shook the boys’ hands and waved to them as the boys walked back over to their teammates and they took off running again.
Kindness is important to health and well-being. One moment of kindness can change a person’s day or even change their entire life. It only takes a moment to be kind but can affect so many people and help spread more love and kindness in our world.
Carriage Court Senior Living practices kindness each day with every resident, whether they live in Independent Living, Assisted Living, or Memory Care. Arrow Senior Living believes “Acts of Kindness can drive change in the world.” We hope kindness finds its way to and from you.
