September is “National Good Neighbor Month,” and in the spirit of this special time, we would like to take the opportunity to share about a unique part of our senior living community – our Memory Care Neighborhood.
Here at Carriage Court Senior Living we strive to make our Neighborhood a special place, not just for our residents, but for everyone who comes to visit and join in our daily festivities. We celebrate being good neighbors every day.
We call our Memory Care communities Neighborhoods because we ensure a safe, intimate feel of warmth and tenderness. We create an environment that has neighborly tendencies where everyone looks out for each other, both residents and staff.
I feel our atmosphere sets the tone when you walk into our Neighborhood; it’s inviting, warm, and safe. Our team strives to meet the needs of every individual with person-centered care. We tailor events and activities to make sure all residents are involved, no matter the stage in diagnosis. All residents are treated with respect and dignity. Since implementing our daily routine I’ve witnessed more security, trust and organization with the team and residents feel more confident with the next event.
We always encourage resident families to come and spend time with us and their loved ones, whether it’s for a quick pop in or joining us for an event. We support families with our monthly support group, educational programs, and lists of references. Our team is confident in communicating with families to help them through any trials or inconveniences they may be experiencing.
September is also Alzheimer’s month. There are many ways you can support people who are living with dementia. Simply being a good neighbor by checking in with residents in the neighborhood is one way. By having a meaningful chat or telling a quick witty joke really can make our residents’ day and brings light and joy into the community. Treating the residents as individuals and offering choices as well continues to provide a sense of being.
We encourage everyone to be a “good neighbor” and find ways to engage and make a difference in the lives of individuals living with dementia. You don’t need to have a special talent, just a heart for others around you. If you would like more information about volunteering in a Memory Care Neighborhood near you or if you are caring for someone with Alzheimer’s or dementia, we would love to help!
