Established by the National Center for Assisted Living (NCAL) in 1995, National Assisted Living Week® recognizes the role of assisted living in America while providing a unique opportunity for residents, their loved ones, staff, volunteers, and the surrounding communities to recognize the role of assisted living in caring for America’s seniors and individuals with disabilities. The annual observance encourages assisted living communities around the country to celebrate the individuals they serve while simultaneously educating members of the public about what assisted living truly looks like.
This year, Carriage Court Senior Living is celebrating the 2022 theme of “joyful moments” from September 11th to September 17th by recognizing how each department plays a role in creating joy for our residents and staff members.
Being a leader of a senior living community means having an opportunity to spread joy and happiness to all those around me. This includes residents, employees, and family members.
Our team creates joyful moments on a regular basis in our community. We celebrate major milestones, like birthdays, with our residents. We take the time to celebrate them the same way we would with our own family. We also do creative follow ups with our employees to show them our appreciation for all they do for the community.
Resident Judith “Judi” Murphy is very joyful living at Carriage Court Senior Living. “I’ve got a lot of friends and we are always having fun together.” She recalls her favorite memory here, so far, “I had so much fun going to Der Dutchman with a group of friends.”
I plan to make National Assisted Living Week special by doing whatever I can to create joyful moments for all our residents and employees throughout the week. The department heads here have already been brainstorming fun ways to spread joy and kindness. We want to utilize a “pay it forward” type of mindset throughout the week. One person will do something kind for one or two people and then those folks will do something kind for another one or two individuals.
