Carriage Court Senior Living Shares a Note of Gratitude

Category: Senior Living

Author: Sophie Rich, Executive Director

This year was one for the books. I got to come back to my “home” and am now the new Executive Director at Carriage Court Senior Living. It feels good knowing I’m here now and I feel so grateful to get to spend the upcoming holiday season with such an amazing group of individuals. We made forward strides regarding COVID, we rolled out a new awesome menu in culinary, and we restarted our family-friendly events.

Although I just rejoined Carriage Court halfway through the year, I do already have some highlights and exciting memories that I’ve made. Most recently, we had our Trick-or-Treat event. It was so heartwarming seeing all the residents and their loved ones come together in one evening. Everyone was happy and smiling and the event really brought everyone together.

Another exciting memory was when we celebrated National Assisted Living Week. Some of our residents got to pie a few of us in the face and it is a day I will never forget. It was such a small thing, but it brought so much laughter to so many people and it’s something one of our residents still talks to me about to this day.

It’s hard to narrow down or point out certain individuals because I have such an immense appreciation for so many of the team members here. Robin, Bella, Emily, and Krysta are a handful of our day shift Care Partners and the way they care for our residents is so effortless. I appreciate them so much. I also have two, night Nurses, Bernard and Maggie, who are phenomenal. The residents compliment me on the great team we have here on a regular basis.

Jeff is our Culinary Director, and he has formed a wonderful team of cooks and servers in the last few months and I couldn’t be more proud of the crew we have serving our residents every day. Lastly, Wendy, our Resident Services Director, has really stepped up to the plate. She has made efforts to add in more diversity in our daily events and the residents absolutely adore her.

We have wonderful partners here at Carriage Court. VITAS Hospice has been a wonderful partner for us over the last year. They have volunteered to help with events during National Assisted Living Week and most recently contributed to our Trick-or-Treat event. We also have a therapy group called Fox that comes in as well. They are extremely responsive and supportive to our needs and the needs of our residents.

For the upcoming year we have quarterly family-friendly events we plan on hosting along with monthly brunches! We are also looking forward to our monthly Story Corner event along with more person-centered ways to acknowledge and show appreciation to our employees!
