Thrive with Proactive Aging

Category: Health & Wellness

Author: Sharon Kirchner, Director of Wellness

Across the world, people are living longer than ever before. However, according to the World Health Organization, “evidence suggests the proportion of life in good health has remained broadly constant, implying that the additional years are in poor health.” Taking a proactive approach to aging can help us live full, energetic, and healthy lives no matter how many years we have lived.

As the Director of Wellness at Carriage Court Senior Living. I promote proactive aging through healthy eating, staying hydrated, exercising regularly, scheduling routine exams and screenings, and prioritizing adequate rest.

Integrating Preventive Measures to Combat Stress and Enhance Longevity

Managing stress and anxiety involves activities like exercise, maintaining a proper sleep schedule, practicing meditation, adopting healthy eating habits, and incorporating deep breathing exercises. These practices safeguard against the negative impacts of stress and anxiety on both physical and mental health as one ages.

Multiple factors deter people from seeking preventative care, including:

  • financial constraints
  • lack of a primary care physician
  • distance from healthcare providers
  • insufficient education on healthy lifestyles

Preventative care offers numerous benefits, including reduced risk of diseases, disabilities, and mortality, along with decreased medical expenses.

To foster proactive thinking, we communicate effectively, address financial barriers, and establish trust with our patients.

It is never too late to invest in your health. Taking control of our well-being can be the difference between surviving and thriving, the difference between extra years of truly living and extra years in decline. Make your years count. Approach aging proactively and use those extra years to get another degree, take up a new hobby, break a record, or explore opportunities you never thought you would get to experience.
